Gabrielle Mathieu—historically inspired fantasy with a dash of romance and a dollop of adventure.
I moved to Europe before moving to Europe became a thing. The indie concerts and all-night diners of Austin, Texas were fun, but I longed for cobbled lanes, high Alpine passes, and centuries of history. Immersed in Europe’s diverse cultures and ancient cities, I discovered a rich history. The intricate interplay of volatile royalty, prosperous traders, and the omnipresent Church offered endless story inspiration. I prioritise plot and the tangled politics of powerful factions over magical kerfuffle.
I also am the cohost of the New Books Network in Fantasy podcast channel.
